The Mud House

To keep alive a dying tradition and to observe ancient building techniques that were used in the Amuq valley, we accomplished our first experimental project by constructing a wattle and daub house in the Tayfur Sokmen excavation compound. The Atchana village-style house was completed in only two weeks. Except for the tile roofing and the concrete floor, the house was built in a local style with the help of the elder village ladies.

Since it is now the coolest spot in the excavation compound, this new building will be used as the computer center.
