Zeynep Türker

Zeynep Türker received a BA in Archaeology from Bilkent University in 2023 and is currently pursuing a PhD in the Near Eastern Studies Department (Assyriology Program) at Johns Hopkins University. Since 2022, Zeynep has been a member of the Tell Atchana excavation team and now serves as the assistant epigrapher. Her research focuses on the Late Bronze Age (Level IV) tablets from Alalakh, with an emphasis on sociolinguistic analysis, scribal practices, and the use of Akkadian as an administrative and diplomatic language in the region. Of particular interest is the way the Akkadian of Alalakh reflects local adaptations and interactions, diverging in notable ways from the Mesopotamian standard.
